Angry God Hates?

On a Christian aplogetics site I posted that Fred Phelps was coming to a church where I live to hold up signs that "God Hates Fags" "Kill a dyke for Jesus". I have questioned on that discussion board why they sit idily by while jackasses use the name of their God, use the name of Jesus to beat others down.

There is no getting through.
They are spin doctors.

It's often tempting to say "I don't wish to dignify Phelps with a response", but the fact is, you're right, people will blame me for him if I don't do anything. So I do something. He's my canonical example of a hateful person that I use when I want to argue that people are capable of great evil.

I posted once in that thread. I doubt I have the patience to come back.

maybe his plan is to give evidence for the existence of God by displaying behavior that defies explanation by the rational mind.

But is that even legal? I mean incitement to murder is probably not what the lawmakers had in mind when the allowed free speech.

They don't even know that the KKK is a bunch of Christians. Everything they've done has some justification in the bible.

I haven't kept up with the God Hates Fags group (though I do follow the God Hates Figs group), how do they compare to the KKK?

Fred Phelps, what an idiot. He should channel his energy into something more positive.
God hates no one...

I don't keep up with either of those sites. I learned about the origins of the KKK through Robert Michener in his book called "Texas".. They were good, decent church going men. They interpreted the bible to meet their needs, sort of like the others all seem to do.... still

My understanding of Southern Baptist history is that they branched off from the regular Baptists over the issue of slavery and the bible provided a rich source of justification for them.

Hi Kally
I think that most people will have different interpretations and that is ok of course however I feel that anytime ones interpretation encourages a propensity to do harm or become hateful to any group of people then I think it is time to reevaluate ones belief system, or at least reevaluate the manifestation of the interpreted scripture in ones life.

I was told this last night at Christianforums

Quote:
I know this will make you angry and it is none of my business. You can live your life the way that you wish. I can pray for you but I do not expect it to help. IMO You have turned your back on God. You are in love with an atheist and allowing his thoughts to overtake you. When I read your post now they contain his views. You are gone.
It just makes me think that some people feel they are Ambassadors of Christianity and while I am sure he felt he was somehow helping me, this type of stuff is really not productive. Same thing goes for Phelps and those people carrying those signs at that Godless March in Washington, what was that all about? let the people walk in peace...sheesh...

I don't like figs...blech...
