Shouldn't homosexuals be allowed to marry (or at the least have their relationship recognised by the state)?

Absolutely.
In my home state, there was recently a fuss about a state law that required the state to provide same-sex benefits to state employees who had partners. The law was recently repealed, and guess what the Republican excuse was? "It's providing special treatment to a group based solely on sexual orientation, so it is discriminatory." Which, on its face, is true. However, if they want to make it no longer "special treatment", instead of making a law forcing same-sex benefits, they should just make same-sex marriages recognized by the state. Because that would not be "special treatment", it would be equal treatment. That's all that particular segment of society is pulling for anyway. But of course, the Republicans in my state rejected that notion, citing idiocy like "blah blah blah, marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman, blah blah blah, immoral, blah blah blah, sanctity of marriage, blah blah blah, eyes of God", and since they have control of our legislative body, they of course shot down the same-sex marriage idea pretty much out of the gate. :banghead: |

The Uk govt. is currently looking into Civil Partnerships for homosexuals. Not marriages, but recognitions of relationships by the state.

Without question, they should be able to marry.
Not a "state recognized realtionship", but marriage. |

I'll throw in the old "let 'em get married so they can suffer too" just for the hell of it.
It's disturbing that this is even an issue anymore. Busy bodies with Biblical morals worrying about consenting adults. Truly pathetic. |
