Bumping up as I'm still waiting for Gemma Therese to support her claims with evidence so I can evaluate the truth of her statements.

cheers,
Michael

Are you suggesting that consecrated bread and wine is somehow materially different than non-consecrated bread and wine?

If so, I find that concept amusing.

And how about the ones who turned over the jews to Hitler? And what about Hitlers religion? He was pretty darn christian...

Yes I am. The transubstantiation of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ takes place in the mind of the believer who is made worthy to receive as a believer through sanctifying grace.

Hitler was just another a born again reformer and therefore "pretty darn christian."

Patron Saints:

What a silly concept!

Patron saints for advertisers, death from artillery, against caterpillars, asses...etc. The list goes on and on.

Your disgust for religion is a direct result of the empty promises made by your church. Your problem was that you called yourself a devout Christian and later had to pray like hell to live up to that commitment while increasingly having to cover for the hypocrite you were.

Pardon me for jumping into this discussion late, but I just found this thread.

Since I'm a life-long atheist, and I abhor religion in general and Christianity in particular, I wonder how you'd explain my 'disgust for religion.' It certainly isn't a result of any empty promises made to me.

Probably because religion is absurd in America and does a lot more harm than good. I see the same thing.

Amos please share why you think religion *in America* is absurd? as opposed to just religion in general...

amos what is absurd is that conquistadors baptised native american infants and if you are a good little catholic you should agree with what they did next. they bashed the babies' heads in. after all that was the only chance the children had of making it into heaven. in fact i think that as far as beliefs go, protestantism is pretty forgiving. many sects think that if you are saved you just have to ask god for forgiveness. instead of a pedophile. sorry that was a cheap shot.

also, i would like to point out that the catholic church didnt just place galileo under house arrest, they excommunicated him. which is like playing monopoly and landing on the go to hell, go directly to hell, do not pass go, do not collect any papal indulgences square. and then some 400 years later they said oops my bad, here is your get out of hell free card.

i would be more ok, if you argued the merits or something a little less evil like satan worship.
