Straight Hate

Out of all the ideas in what to do with ground zero, the proposal to build a mosque, synagogue and church is one that splits me right down the middle. Indeed, such a site would make a great statement on human progression and religious tolerance, but the other side of me that sees religious ignorance as the driving force behind Sept. 11 screams a thousand times "no!" What do you think?

Two problems with the idea:

1) If you really want to be diverse, you must have temples dedicated to Hindus, Buddhists, neo-pagans and even Satanists. And to be fair you must have at least a hall given over to atheist gathering.

2) Merely bulidng religious buildings wouldnot do any good. It is the people you want to change and educate so that there would be peace. It is entirely possible that the radicals of all religions would quarrel and even come to blows. Besides think of the different Christian sects that refuse to speak to one another: are they going to come?

While we're at it, we might as well build a Kingdom Hall for the JWs, & of course we really should also make sure all major xian sects are represented--Protestants, Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, & what the hell, why not the Pentecostals, Seventh Day Adventists, etc., too? Let's not forget that there are Sunni Muslims, & that other kind of Muslim, & Orthodox Jews, Reform Jews, well you get the idea.
The main benefit to be had from all the houses of worship being next to each other is that they won't have far to go when they decide to burn each other's buildings down.

Silly idea, imho.

I agree with Kathall that it was religious ignorance that caused the crime. I almost want to laugh because I can imagine people walking in the doors of their holy place, all the while scowling at the heretics and heathens walking into the other places.
Following the same lines of logic, let's build a gun shop on the floor of the building where L.H. Oswald shot JFK.

What would be the ULTIMATE symbol of humanity? Whatever it is, that should be what is built at ground zero.
