His purpose is to appeal to the less radical, more centrist, non-interventionist segment of the population. Kinda like eye candy for somewhat less indoctrinated people. Sometimes reffered as the voice of reason.

Kinda like a sane person...

But who knows- maybe its all part of the deception???

He is also a predominantly apolitical soldier, who fought his way up through the ranks more or less legitmately. In other words, in my armchair opinion, and borrowing from the yiddish, a real mensch.

I see him as more or less forced into his current position; his performance at the UN indicative of a once "intact" individual caught up in (perhaps indifferently) with the orders he's probably used to being given (understanding and applying the past thirty years of foreign and domestic policy).

I saw him as a soldier who understands the bullshit and fought within the ranks to stop it, but everything he's said and done so far makes me think he's just another pointless pawn.

I hope he's not, but I fear he is. Maybe, just maybe, he'll be the one who comes forward and blows the whistle we all know is just waiting off to the side.

The question is, of course, whether or not he's an actual patriot or just another irrelevant puppet? If he's a "man" he'll blow the whistle; if he's a neutered punk bitch, he'll remain where he is now. Hidden and silent.

They're all puppets. Look at Tommy Thompson, the Secretary of Health and Human Services. As Governor of Wisconsin, Thompson was one of the most vocal supporters of the bleeding edge stem cell research that has been taking place for years at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Now he's a Bush chump making a fool of himself in front of Senate committees. What he gets out of this charade I have no idea.

I know that he was once a US Army general.

I never knew that he was a Republican though.

He is willfully, with full consciousness, aiding and abetting Bush & Co. In fact, he is a key player.

Not that I don't believe it, but do you have some good sources? I don't believe it's possible to raise that high in the military and not get involved in politics, and possibly have someone holding dirt over you, but I really don't know that much about Powell.

Thanks for any feedback.

Cheers,
Lane

I view Collin Powell as having the attributes of a "team player" or a "good soldier". He makes recommendations based on his experience, but his main purpose is to execute the orders given to him by his commander in chief to the best of his ability. He is competent, which makes him a good person in the right hands, and a very dangerous person in the wrong hands.

Before anyone dismisses Powell as a mere team player and good soldier, better read the website below.

The military ideal is dead. It died at Verdun, the Nazi buried it, and in Vietnam its grave was pissed on. But Powell goes far beyond the evils of the military ideal. He's aproven liar and deceiver.
