Default Abstinence Only leads to increases in abortion

Florida’s abortion rate rising as nation's rate falls

Quote:
"Last year, a million and a half dollars was taken out of the state's family planning program and moved to the abstinence program," she said. "The budget wasn't big enough to start with, only serving about 26 percent of the women in need in the state. It would be nice if people practiced abstinence, but I don't know how you stop people from having sex."

The sad thing is the state probably won't admit their problem. All the scientific evidence will be hidden - my prediction.

Dingus, of course the scientific evidence will be hidden. These people aren't willing/ready to face reality. They also ignore the fact that, in European countries where sex education is more liberal, and abstinence-only education would be rightly laughed at, the STD, abortion, and pregnancy rates among teens are dramatically lower. Not only that, but in some countries, the average age by which teens lose their virginity is actually higher than it is here in the states!

It's been obvious that a safe sex education program is far superior to abstinence-only for a LONG time now. And it'll be a long time yet before abstinence-only supporters admit that.

Do you think the US will EVER switch to a more effective system?

America itself won't, because everyone prefers to let the local school systems decide on lesson plans. However, many school districts already do have comprehensive sex ed. Still, the quality of sex ed in America is lacking.
