I'd like to comment on something Badfish said, on pg. 28-
it is not recognized as truth at CF So we learn from this that CF has a *recognized* truth. You know, there's a good word for that in Russian- PRAVDA, 'official truth'. Pravda is presented to be absolute and unchanging, something that no one can deny and still remain part of the society recognizing the Pravda. I have called this Truth, with the capital, to distinguish it from truth, which is not to be represented as something perfect; truth may be refined into something more precise. Small-t-truth is only humanly accurate. (This is not to berate human accuracy, though. We can do rather incredibly well if we persist at it; consider how accurately we know lightspeed.) If you think what you have is Truth, actually handed down by God- then you will think it blasphemy to question it or attempt any refinement. Since religion may be defined as the search for Truth, it is flawed at its very core. The only way it may be (may be) transformed into something good for our race, and indeed for all life, is to abandon the concept of Truth, and be satisfied to search for truth. This requires, I think, the mystical view that ultimate Truth is wordless- that all our attempts to express it are poems, myths, just-so stories. But as long as you defend your Pravda, the religion you espouse will be an evil which wears the mask of good. |

As my board reading (and I guess posting style) both here and at CF can probably be best described as "sporadic", I have only just found this thread. (30 pages into it, no less...) Anyway, just wanted to say hi before I slog through the 30 pages.... "Hi."

Here's a question... is it ok to wantonly bash other religions and their symbols at CF? As long as it is not a christian religion?

Bear is one of the "Good Guys"
I was unfairly banned a while back and he looked into it and reinstated me. (I know, I know..I'm such an angel. How could I have possibly been banned? ) |
