Greek Myths and the Beginning and the End of the World
So, I was thinking about things a few days ago.
Yes, I know it can be dangerous to your health. I was thinking, "Why have I never heard about Greek myths that tell how the universe began or how it will end?" After all, many religions have imaginative stories describing these events (Christianity, Norse mythology, Egyptian mythology, etc). Have the Greek versions of these events just avoided me or didn't they have any beginning/end myths? |

If the latter, then it's because, in our day and age, there's a unanimous agreement that non-Abrahamic creation myths are not worth considering. This sort of agreement still hasn't reached out to Genesis and Co. |

The sad part is most cannot even identify that there are two seperate creation Myths in Genesis. I haven't heard any creation or armageddon myths from the Greeks either. Maybe they were just happy with their current life. All end of the world myths need a sense of urgency to be effective. As in, the end of the world will happen in your generation.

Greek creation myths certainly do exist, and are pretty well known to those with an interest in Greek mythology. See Hesiod's Theogony for one example. Orphic myths also exist, which are somewhat different and idiosyncratic. Apocalyptic myths are pretty rare if not non-existent. In Greek mythology, the gods did not create the universe, but exist as part of it, so neither do they destroy the universe.
By the way, have you tried typing "Greek creation myths" into google? |

What puzzles me is why people think Greek creationism (or any other non-Abrahamic story) is not fit to challenge evolution like the Hebrew creation story is. Answers in Hesiod anyone? It is obvious that seemingly bad design is the result of Kronos coughing while shaping his creatures.

Try reading Ovid's Metamorphoses. It's basically got the Roman rip-off of Enuma Elish. I can't remember where the Greek version of it is, but look for Deukalion/Deucalion (Noah).
