Post The Tallest Crucifix in the World

<a href="http://detnews.com/2002/metro/0201/29/a01-402649.htm" target="_blank">http://detnews.com/2002/metro/0201/29/a01-402649.htm</a>

Can you believe this guy? Tom Monahaghn is at it again, spending his millions to promote his religion. Tacky, tacky. The Detroit News reader's survey results as of this a.m. were 61% who thought this is a good idea. Arrrgh!

Yeah, it’s pretty silly, but there’s an upside. If you’re not out of purgatory within 30 minutes, you get three sins off.

Finally, Oral Roberts has a place to hang his 900-foot Jesus!

I knew there was a reason why I don't get Domino's pizza.

The guy gives lots of $$ to people with whom I disagree.

Look at it this way: every buck he spends on this monstrosity is another buck he can't spend on electing some conservative yahoo to Congress. Let him build a million giant crucifixes say I.

Looks like his Jesus is only about 12 meters head to foot. The Jesus in Rio is about 90 meters, but is not on a cross and has a much shorter base (not counting the mountain).

He should build it next to that steel replicate of the ark someone's building.

[nit]Monaghan doesn't own Domino's any more. He sold it to Bain Capital, a Boston-based investment group. I think he has a residual interest and a consulting contract, but the company itself no longer makes the kind of donations you're thinking about. You can look up the company's financials on the SEC website for details. [/nit]
