Crop Circles
I was recently amazed to find out that a co-worker of mine is of the opinion that crop circles are the result of some non-human intelligence trying to communicate with us.
I thought that this idea had been debunked years ago with the confession of a couple of guys in England that they had been making crop circles. Well, it turns out that the standard of excellence for crop circles has continued to increase over the years so that nowadays thare are some really fantastic designs out there. Much of the argument for the genuineness of crop circles centers on the work of an outfit called BLT research. In particular Dr. W.C. Levengood who is a biologist and has performed a lot of research on samples of the grains taken from crop circle sites. His work has been published in peer reviewed journals. I was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with this stuff and could direct me to any information countering the claims of Dr. Levengood. Your wasting your time. Crop circles are old hat. Everyone except the 'experts' knew it was a complete wind-up. It was fun watching them make arses of themseleves while it lasted though.
The new thing is van marks. Apparently, aliens have moved into the urban landscape and approach parked vans in the dead of night. They leave arcane messages on them like "wash me" or "also available in white". They also comunicate their understanding of the human genome by making a drawing of a pair of tits or a blokes knob. Expect crop circle mania to resurface again with the release of Signs this summer (M. Night Shyamalan's new movie with Mel Gibson).

Bacon, lettuce, and tomato?
Actually one book that really opened my eyes about alot of these unexplained phenomena is The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan. He really goes into detail on crop circles, alien abductions and the like. After years of A&E and Discovery Channel specials, i never knew crop circles were hoaxes until reading that book. |

I want to make it clear that I think crop circles are purley human in origin.
I was hoping to find some material that would directly refute Dr. Levengood's theory that the abnormalities seen in the crops could only be the result of some type of radiation coming from a plasma vortex. Hopefully something that clearly demonstrates that the same types of effects could be the result of mechanical flattening. I am trying to convince my co-worker that it is all baloney. Steve |

I dunno about Levengood's stuff I'm afraid, but given that the people who make these things now have a flash website, you have to conclude that the people who are still baffled by them have an innate desire to be confused.
