NY Times Article on Georgia Situation Wrong
This is a heads up:
The New York Times article dated August 23 on the Cobb County situation is not accurate. Here is a more accurate article The NYT falsely claimed the policy was adopted. It was not, it got tentive approval and does not get a final vote until after a 30 day public review period. And falsely claimed that the policy would "equal weight to evolution and biblical interpretations." I want to get this mention this to prevent the spread of innaccurate info and to keep the regulars from making embarrassing claims elsewhere. Try this (the OP omitted a /url for the first article, producing a bizarre result.)

Thanks.
Well, if creationism isn't to be required, permitted, or promoted in science class (which doesn't leave it a lot of scope), then what are they actually trying to do? There aren't any scientific alternatives to evolution and there's no point pretending otherwise. The whole young-earth/flood scenario doesn't stand alone without Genesis as a backup. I like this bit: "But Johnston said the policy would not allow for creationism or other religion-based theories to be taught as gospel to local students, and does not violate the federal-court ordered separation of church and state." I mean, it's all very well to say they shouldn't be taught as gospel, but it's a damn sight nearer the truth than teaching them as science. |

Here's another article from a Georgia newspaper.
