Post Is Santa God for children?

As was pointed out in another thread, both of those jolly old elves have many characteristics in common.

I was thinking that by getting small children to buy into the Santa myth (and reinforcing it with presents) you indoctrinate them into a general acceptance of theistic archetypes. This makes it easier to switch them over to God, who sadly only promises presents someday in the future.

cheers,
Michael

The lump of coal received for disobeying Santa seems pretty similar to the concept of hell for disobeying god. God is Santa for adults, just with higher stakes.
