Default White Stripes / Elephant

Well, my girlfriend dragged me to the supermarket today and while she did her thing I poked around the magazine section. Rolling Stone gave this album 5 stars (their highest). Of course, the critic who wrote the review insisted 7 Nation Army includes a bass guitar bit, and wondered why it wasn't mentioned in the liners...when the bass line is obviously played on a standard 6 six guitar...so maybe he knows shit all about music and shouldn't be trusted. I've heard Seven Nation Army and it sounds pretty good for mainstream music, nothing amazing...but a google search showed quite a few people who'd seem to know their music are raving about this album.

Has anyone heard it? Is it worth my dollars?

A couple people mentioned having gotten that recently in my thread Last CD I bought. You might check there to see what they said.

They didn't really say anything too substantial though...generally positive, but limited to one sentence conveying they'd purchased it and weren't horrified or anything.

There is no bass guitar in that song, you're right. Anyway, there's only two of them, and they play it live.

If you want to buy a current album, that's the one to buy, i think. I don't know how much you'll like it, but in my opinion, it's the best (newish) release out there right now. Although that's not saying a whole lot considering the current alternatives, i really like it.

I'm one of the ones who mentioned buying it. I really don't know your musical tastes but I'd reccomend it. As others said, there isn't much new stuff out that I give a damn about. This was a pleasant suprise.

And on a side note to those of us in the US, the White Stripes are going to be the musical guest on Conan O'Brien's show this entire week.

I thought this was a much better CD than White Blood Cells. Some of the music was really outstanding, especially on the rockers like Black Math and Ball and Biscuit. I'm not sure if it will sound as good on a home stereo system as it does in the car because of the old-style production techniques used. I can't play it at home at sufficient volume while my wife is around. She doesn't like the loud stuff as much as I do.

yo,

I think its a pretty fine record. I've fallen for the hype, I guess.

Saw them on Conan tuesday; what's with the huge security guard? Anyone know?

In a similar vein, 25 Suaves, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
