Question is not answered yet, but it may soon be.

I'm guessing that my title heading turned out to not be catching. The upshot is that there may be a fourth great ape species in Africa. There have been rumors of a giant ape in the Bili forest for some time, and it appears that the rumors are in fact true. Even if it turns out to be a giant form of chimpanzee, it is still an exciting find, even if it comes at a tragic time., just as the bushmeat crisis threatens to overwhelm the African Great apes.
