Post Habit

I was wondering if any other atheist or non-religous people have the habit of saying, "God Damnit!" (when pissed off of course), "Jesus' Christ" (ditto), "Thank God" (sigh of relief), and/or other religious type of phrases.

The reason I am asking, is because I am wondering what to say when someone says something like, "Don't take the lords name in vain!"

I usually say, "Oh, sorry..." That not only gets old, but I am not exactly sorry.

Ask them if they've ever said "God damn it." (If they say "no," they're lying. ) Then ask them if it was a belief statement when they said it. I hope they'd say "no..."

After that, just tell them you said it out of convention or habit.

Well, I never say "God Dammit!" but I do use a variety of other Christian expressions. No one has ever told me not to take the Lord's name in vain though.

Tell them that at least when you say it, your lack of belief makes it a simple invective and not a sin. And then ask them how often they find themselves committing their sin.

You folks don't like Christians, do ya?

Funny thing, I am a big basketball fan, and I spend most of my time online at the UNC basketball website talking hoops.

Anyway, you guys talk about religious folks the same way they talk about Duke.

I just find that kind of amusing. Carry on.

Hmmm...
"Duke damn it!"
"motherdukers"

With my luck, I'd piss off some deranged John Wayne fan ("don't take the Duke's name in vain!").

Now that would be amusing.
