GRRRR!

After looking through the list, I saw the names of not only one, but *two* of my best former Calculus students! These are people that are quite capable of critical thinking. Why don't they apply their critical thinking skills to their religious beliefs?

Sincerely,

Goliath

Goliath,

Wesley here. I managed to miss those flyers, but I have been rather swamped the last couple of weeks, so had not made it to the Union or elsewhere on campus for some time. I also seem to have missed the "statement of faith" printed in the Spectrum on Friday, I will have to get a copy and look through it.

Don't count your students out just because they sign this thing, what finally got me to question religion was when I was in the USSR, and I was asked if I "was a believer". I responded yes without thinking, and that troubled me, and made me think (and coupled with a number of other items lead me to see Christianity as just another mythology). Getting the community to talk about religion may bring some of them around, or at least realize there are more than just Lutherans and Catholics in the world.

I notice that "John Engelstad" has been added. I am guessing somebody put that in as a joke as well (Jesus Hitler still there at 8:45 Monday).

Because the two things are practically mutually exclusive. (badly quoted) "Faith is the essence of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen..." That's what my Dad used to tell me, and it's clearly stating that faith is exactly that, a foundationless belief, lacking in any sort of evidence. In fact, for it to be "True Faith", it has to fly in the face of the evidence of all the senses.

Don't feel too bad about your students. Once you've learned the kind of faith I'm talking about, it probably takes alot to unlearn it for some, although I'm guessing. The whole faith thing just never stuck with me.

P.S. Jesus Hitler still there at 10:30 AM, Monday, along with ALF, Haywood Jablowme, and other fun party guests.

Is this "DO YOU AGREE WITH <insert name here>?" a Campus Crusade for Christ thing? We had a "DO YOU AGREE WITH..." thing hit campus two years ago. Flyers everywhere, people wearing shirts - it was a lesson in good campaigning. Hook people, get them interested, and reel them in. That campaign brought the Campus Crusade numbers soaring - at a campus of 8,000 we have approximately 800 people actively involved. I guess people are easily fooled?

At any rate - it seems that this is just another example of Fundies rallying together and spreading their fluff at campuses nationwide.

Yep, it's sponsored by Intervarsity xian fellowship, Chi Alpha, and the KKK--er, I mean CCC.

There are tons of flyers. I haven't seen the t-shirts, yet, but then again, I haven't been to the Union yet (where, as I type this, they probably have a table set up).

Sincerely,

Goliath

I saw the first T-shirt just now. Bright orange, black print. One of our student help is wearing it. I would tell you to keep your eyes open and your will see them, but they are so obnoxious I don't think you could miss them if you walked around with your eyes closed.

It ought to be a fun week at NDSU.

Yep - ours were bright green and EVERYONE was wearing one. Since "Justin" was against homosexuality, the Gay/Straight Alliance decided to make shirts (unofficially, of course) that said "I blew Justin" and "I fucked Justin up the ass" etc. Okay - so it wasn't very mature, but it sure was fun!
