Is Necronomicon a fictional book?
Hi guys, just wonder how many of you read the infamous book of the dead, Necronomicon? Nevertheless, I had two doubts regarding this cultist book. First, is it just mere fiction or does it really had some historical basics? Next, is the author who wrote it truely mad?
Below are links to help you guys in your recalling: http://www.occultopedia.com/n/necronomicon.htm |

yes
The Necronomicon is an invention by the English language's greatest horror writer, H. P. Lovecraft. I don't know which story it first appeared in, but Mr. Lovecraft referred to it many times, and I believe Robert E. Howard (a friend of Lovecraft's) also included it in some of his writings (though not his most popular works -- Conan --, since that series takes place long before Abdul Alhazred is supposed to have lived). Other authors perpetuate the story and occult groupies -- who, let's face it, can sometimes fail to apply high standards to what they believe -- eat that stuff up.
Anyway, there was a paperback edition of a book claiming to be the Necronomicon a while back. I picked it up and it was a bunch of gibberish with Sumerian-sounding words. I don't think it's the same book in print nowadays because I haven't looked into that one. |

I get confused, I have a copy of The Necronomicon, which is associated with Lovecraft and bears a slight resemblance to the authentic Babylonian creation myth “The Enuma Elish” in some ways and may have been borrowed by Lovecraft. Then there is something called “The Diary of a Mad Arab” which may or may not be the same thing. It has a distinct Lovecraft flavor “I must tell my story before I go mad!”
I also have something completely different that claims to be “the real thing” but it is written in Assyro-Babylonian which I can’t read. The only thing about it in English is the preface which tells some wild tale about all the misfortunes suffered by those who tried to translate it. To answer your question, I don’t know. |

It's a shitty movie. It would have been so much better if the main character had stayed really pissed off with everyone.
In the beginning he acts like he's really pissed off that he's in a crappy movie, but then he gets all...enthusiastic. He should've stayed pissed off, fucked everyone over and laughed at them. Scrambles |

I have the hardback.
It is a piece of fiction, of course. Written to fill a need by people to read it. It's fun. |
