That's true! Have you seen the dude's picture! Besides being half his age, he's twice his size.

Scratch that. I'm not a violent person. I guess I would have mooned him instead.

My immediate reaction when I read the story was, "Aldrin ONLY decked this guy?" If someone set up a conversation with me under false pretenses and then told me i was a thief and a phony and my entire life was a fraud, I would have been tempted to do a lot more.

And I'm also a nonviolent person.

To say nothing of the fact the guy was poking Aldrin with a Bible...

<a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,63045,00.html" target="_blank">Fox News</a> has quite a humorous column turning the tables on Sibrel.

Apollo astronauts did place laser reflectors on the moon. Lasers are frequently fired from the Earth and bounced off these reflectors, allowing us to measure the distance to the moon within a few inches.

Given that many observatories do this, it seems to me that the Moon Conspiracy types should be having a difficult time explaining how those reflectors got there.

Cheers,

Michael

What is the motivation of these moon conspirators? We all know about the ideological well from which creationism/ID springs. Do these conspirators have their own ideological motivation? Or are they just plain nuts?

As far as I can tell, they're like any other conspiracy theorist. They're just plain nuts, and they're also the type who loves 'tipping the apple cart". They prefer to think of the world as a place where horrible secret conspiracies are cooked up by the government, and they see themselves as heroes for defying all odds and exposing the truth to the victimized public. Of course, everyone else just thinks they're assholes, but that doesn't stop them.

A good conspiracist can incorporate any contradictory evidence into his theory. If it looks like there's no conspiracy, it's only because the conspirators did such a good job of hiding the evidence. For example, do you remember hearing that South Carolina recently suceeded from the union for a second time, fought a bloody civil war, lost, and has since been under martial law? Of course not. The fact that you never heard of it is proof of their massive, ongoing cover-up.
