Default Bible Code n' Bin Laden

Here's a letter sent to the NY Times:
Quote:
I am the author of "Bible Code II: The Countdown," mentioned by Bill Keller in his March 8 column. My Pentagon briefing about the Bible Code took place on Feb. 21 and was attended by top military intelligence officials. Both American and Israeli intelligence are now using the Bible Code to hunt for Osama bin Laden. What possible loss is there in that? Why do United States and Israeli intelligence take the code seriously? Not, as Mr. Keller writes, because "we're all a little too desperate these days," but because the Bible Code keeps coming true. We have a real enemy to find and fight, the one who attacked us: Osama bin Laden. Discouraging top American intelligence officials from checking out information that might lead to the Qaeda leader is bad for our country. We are in a war that must be won. MICHAEL DROSNIN New York, March 9, 2003

I got this from Tom Tomorrow's Site .

Ripping your hair out yet? I just don't know what to say...it's like...Indiana Jones or something- maybe they'll try to enlist the holy grail or shroud of turin next.

Biblical Prophecy in the Bush Administration

Tom Tomorrow posted this from a reader:

The author of those Bible Code books is, in all probability, insane. But he's amusing/cooky insane as opposed to dangerous/wild-eyed insane. I think I saw him on The 700 Club a few years ago and (I swear I saw this with my own two eyes) he told Robertson that he didn't believe in God and said that the Bible Code is the work of aliens. The look on Pat's face and the bum's rush he gave the guy made the hours I've wasted watching that show worth it in one instant.

Hahaha, what was even more hilarious on that tom tomorrow site was the changing of french fries and french toast to freedom fries and freedom toast, lmfao, that's just sad

Over xmas, one of my fundy cousins tried to tell my 12-year-old sister that Bible Code was the real deal. Apparently, even pubescent kids who have bought into hardcore xtianity can see how ludicrous it is...boy, was it an amusing moment when she laughed in his face. I wanted to point out that Ouija boards work when you push the marker around, too, but I didn't think he'd get the point.

I remember making a similar thread about bible code before in the science and skeptism forum. And no one had appeared to defend the credibility of the 'code', not even the chrisitans, themselves, bother. So, I guess its pretty obvious to how most people think of that 'code'.

Oh deary me... The bible codes? The codes that is extracted by the "method" that if used on Moby Dick "foretells" the assassination of a huge bunch of people (Indira Gandhi, Rene Moawad, Trotsky, JFK, etc, etc)?

This is a pretty good debunking of the whole torah/bible code nonsense. Has an extensive section dedicated to Drosnins books as well...

If this is true, one wonders why it seems to be taking so long to capture him. If this "bible code" is so useful, why can't anyone appear to get any use out of it?

I suggest they try dowsing instead...
