I'm amazed that I had never heard of this before, and I watch BBC news regularly. This is shocking.

The news that is reported is done so by businesses. What is reported and how it is reported is motivated by economic concerns. Of what benefit is it to "western" news companies to report such things? Their audience, mostly Christian, probably do not want to hear such things, and they are likely to be accused of being anti-Christian for reporting such stories. Besides, the "news" (I use that term loosely) organizations prefer to provide circuses, like the O.J. Simpson trial, and now we have Kobe Bryant to occupy our time. The fact that people are being killed elsewhere is more trouble (and more expense) to report on, and consequently is not likely to be given much time.
However, if you were successful in sufficiently increasing awareness, then people here might actually do something to help stop it. Good luck on that. |
