Angry National Prayer Breakfast - Live on CSPAN

What a wonderful way to start the day!

Where does one even begin to start discussing this outrageous display? W. is in rare form this morning. Apparently the US is now a "nation of prayer" and prayer is the one thing which ties all Americans together.

Do prayers offered to pagan gods or Satan count? I wonder.

And let's not forget, this morning's festivities are brought to you by the American taxpayer, our religionist politicians (in both parties) and the letter W. :banghead:

Didn't Clinton have prayer breakfasts as well? Yes, I am too busy to research it right now.

Yes, and I'm sure all the presidents before him did as well. It's still wrong. Although I found Bush Jr's comments this morning to be particularly offensive to those of us who have no belief in a higher power and even less belief in the efficacy of prayer.

arrggghhh

Some of the idiocy:

Quote:
She (Condolesa Rice) returned to regular church attendance when she was at Stanford University, when a man approached her in a supermarket on a Sunday and was engaged in conversation by a man shopping for his church's picnic.

Did she play piano, by chance, he asked, noting his church was in need of one.

"My goodness, God has a long reach, right into the spice aisle of the Lucky Supermarket." She said she said to herself.
Powerful god works though mundane coincidence. Wow! He sure is awesome.

Quote:
Later, she discovered the congregation had trouble staying in tune, so she called her mother and asked her what to do.

"'Honey, just play in the key of C and they'll come back to you,'" Rice related her mother saying. "Perhaps God plays in C, and that is why we always seem to find our way back to Him, sometimes in spite of ourselves," she said.
Must have been Baptists. Only repetitive major chords are allowed. Anything else confuses them.

I concur! I just wanted to be clear that the prayer breakfast thing wasn't an invention of Shrubya's.

Actually this was only the 51st such ritual.

The breakfast, held every February, has been a tradition in Washington since the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Ah, I should have known. The 1950's.

When God and Xtianity were plastered onto everything in the name of Cold War politics: from "Under God" in the Pledge to "In God We Trust" on the currency, and now it seems the prayer breakfast dates back to that time as well.

The 50's were indeed the Golden Age for this type of thing.

Here in Ohio, the state motto, "With God, All things are Possible" was enacted in that decade. And in my city, my favorite public creche started being displayed in the late 50's.
