I guess I misremembered the article - it talked about worshipping the sun, not trees. But it's the same principle. Worship a nature god - there may not be a god there, but you benefit anyway.

Can you focus on the Christians first? They're our common enemy, after all

Converting half of them to agnosticism/atheism and half to Roman Paganism will be more mutually beneficial than converting just half of them to paganism, along with a few atheists, after all...
