lCensorship?
Last fall I donated two books to the local library, which I have done before. This time I kept checking and they were not catalogued. I finally made an inquiry and was told that someone would call me. Someone did and I could sense the hostility in her voice immediately. She haughtily informed me that they had checked with other libraries, found that very few had these books and decided that they were not suitable for this library's patrons and the books had been sold at their annual book sale. She also stated that she was not the one who had made the decision. Whe I asked for the name of the person who had, she replied, why would you want to know that?. At this point I terminated the conversation.
Supposing that the library board administrator had probably been the person who had made the decision, I e-mailed her. She has not favored me with a reply. The two books involved are, Denying Evolution, and Tales of the Rational, both by Massimo Pigliucci. If some of you who can access your public library's catalog online would check to see if they have these books I would greatly appreciate it. The Admiral |

The Harrsion County MS library system did not have any titles by Mr. Pigliucci.
You can make your own comparative review of titles here. What were the condition of your books? I would continue to investigate the matter in person until it is resolved. |

The Admiral,
You could try to find a Christian apologetic book whih takes the opposite stance of those books and donate them and see what happens. I just checked my local library. The author you mentioned wasn't found but all sorts of other "infidel" material was found. DC |

Ronin
The books were new paperback. I have copies of my own and have read them both. I fact I just finished Denying Evolution for the second time. I do not intend to drop the matter. To put it bluntly, I am pissed. The Admiral |

I don't understand the argument, "other libraries don't have it so we don't want it."
Are libraries under some overfunding situation in which they can afford every book they want? |

Thanks to all for the responses.
Digital Chicken: I know what would happen. They have 23 titles by Hal Lindsey and 7 by Betty Eadie, oh yes, and 6 or 7 by Shirley McClain. The Admiral |

Non-existant in Kansas City, though this shouldn't come as a suprise, eh?
As a note, though, there is a sizable amount of work by Dawkins available. Not really into atheist literature myself, so I don't know any other good ones to look for. |
