Listen to this one, from the Christian board (mostly Catholics and not English speaking). A thread appeared named "Marriage between couples of different faith?" Almost everyone considered that kind of marriage an abomination and that RCC would never approve of such marriages. Then one guy said how RCC has nothing against those kind of marriages, as long as children are raised in Catholic faith. Then he produced quotations from Vatican council that confirms that. Even after that, people still thought how such marriages are forbidden.
Then another "incident" happened. Those same people started posting those awful stories about stuff that they can't rationalize and then their imaginary friend helps them with rationalization. Anyways, they started posting songs and texts without acknowledging the authors. Just copy/paste without authors name. Until one of the authors appeared on the board and asked why her name is not mentioned (they would just have to copy one more line where the authors name was, but no, no one would copy that). So the same guy appeared again and warned them that what they are doing constitutes plagiarism. They attacked they guy and he was forced to leave. Oh yeah, he was one of the moderators on that forum. I don't know what he was doing there since he was way too intelligent for that bunch. (edit: fixed formatting) |

It seems the antics at Christian Forums just wont stop this week. In this thread Shane Roach started off by trying to say that science has neglected any study of human consciousness. Accordingly, science has neither tried - nor would be able in any case - to study the human consciousness. When I told him his post was full of shit and provided him a list of journals and organizations devoted to studying this he simply moved the goal posts. Apparently, science defines human consciousness differently then do lay people (but of course he can't demonstrate how or why).
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when he said he found it irritating to be asked to cite references for his inflammatory statements. |

Simply point him to studies conducted on split-brain patients (you know, people who have had their corpus callosum severed). There is bascially no way to justify the existence of a "mind" that exists separate from the physical brain in the light of those studies.

Well, I'm sure he does find it irritating. However, if he wants to be taken seriously, he'll just have to swallow his irritation and provide his sources. Course, if he doesn't want to be taken seriously, he can just carry on the way he's going.

The thread on Satanic/Demonic/Evil Spirit Encounters is pretty amusing. Mainly the affronted reactions by some of the Christians to the skeptics.
