I'm probably too much of a control freak; that aspect of my pesonality forces me to use a hand editor for all HTML. Which is fine anyway, because typically I do template work anyway, and the real HTML content is generated via Java or PHP or whatever.

Even when I am doing programming, I rarely use an IDE if it will at all attempt to generate any code for me. I'm trying to convince myself that it's sometimes a good idea to let an application generate some of my code for me, to give myself a break, but so far it's not working...

I suppose you like programming in machine language (hex codes or the crutch of assembly language)? That's the most control you can ever get.

Me Thag. Thag wear mastodon skin. Thag edit Web pages with bare-bones text editor.

Thag once try BillGatesSoft product to make Web pages. Thag no like. Spend much time smash extraneous formatting codes with club.

Funny you bring that up. I'm too "young" of a programmer to have had a reason to get into machine/assembly languages. But at some point, I would like to try learning it, "for fun." As I watch myself typing these words, I realize that I am sick and need help.

Upon re-reading my post, I realized that it could be subject to misinterpretation. I was not referring to anyone except myself. Honest.

I hand code mine; that's how I learned how. I'm too set in my ways to try anything else.

I've gotten so used to hand-coding web sites, that I find it faster than trying to use a WYSIWIG editor.

WYSIWIG editors do have their advantages for site management, though.

No, you're sane. You have to be sane, because I plan on doing the same thing and...oh.

I run my one and only site mostly by hand:

The site's layout in acheived via a XML/XSL combination and interpreted with PHP's sabolotron library.

Pages are written in a format of my own design which tells the engine which 'side' content to include on a page, who the author is, etc. I haven't have a chance to work on it recently, however, and it is due for an upgrade.

I edit both the pages and content code in vi. check all of my xml files with xmllint.

If I ever develop my engine well enough to handle large scale commercial sites like coldfusion does, I'll definately put the source out there.

I use GoLive. Its not just the coding thats an issue. Its file management and repition and I think GoLive handles these well.

It also let's me incorporate Photoshop files directly in which saves a lot of busy work.

I found Dreamweaver to have one of the most horrible user interfaces invented. I can't believe anyone thought it was a good idea.

I first learned HTML when reverse engineering weppages back in 1994. Wow. Its coming on 10 years...
