Post Theists: Why are we atheists?

I'd just like to do a quick survey of the theists who visit our forum. Why do you think that we are atheists? I'll even provide a multiple choice answer. But please feel free to write your own answer, or append the ones I have provided with your own comments.

(A) There really aren't any atheists, since deep in our heart of hearts, everybody knows that God exists. But some people repress that knowledge, because they don't want it to be true.

(B) Satan and his demons mislead us. Theories such as evolution and worldviews of naturalism are the tools by which Satan misleads the weak-minded. He brilliantly twists things around, and makes evolution and naturalism "seem credible" while attempting to make the truth seem foolish.

(C) Atheists genuinely feel there is not enough evidence to believe in God. But they are focusing on the wrong approach, since "God can't be put in a test tube." One has to have faith, and they just refuse to see that. One has to approach God by feelings, not through cold reason.

The simple answer is, Sin.
Biblically, #1 would be correct. #2 is simi-correct, but misses the point that, because of #1, God has "given them up," to being decieved.

(D) It's the conclusion you have come to from assessing all the evidence available to you for and against the existence of God.

That seems like the most obvious answer to "Why are you an atheist?", imo

Whether you are misled by invisible malevolent entities ("blinded" is what the Bible says), or are in fact repressing some knowledge of God because you don't want it to be true, or are using an approach which is bound to miss that God is real because it does not allow for 'faith' - who can say...only God would know that for sure - if He indeed does exist .

Anyway my guess is that if some people do suppress knowledge of things because they don't want them to true, that behavior is probably not confined to non-Christians

Maybe there aren't any theists. Deep in their hearts, everybody knows that God does not exist. But some people repress that knowledge, because they can't let go of their Big Daddy.

This other side of the coin is <a href="http://www.geocities.com/stmetanat/presuppositional.html" target="_blank">here</a>.

I'll go with this one. It reminds me of my seriously fundie aunt and uncle, who at 75 years spent thousands of dollars on heart bypasses....rather than going to meet the Jesus they claim they can't wait to see.

Please, let the theists answer for themselves. The topic is for theists to answer why they think we are atheists. So, atheists, please don't hijack this thread before they even get a chance to post their answers.

theophilus, thanks for your input.

Don't you consider me a theist also? Wasn't my answer theistic enough?

Thank you for your input also, Helen. I consider you an agnostic, or a theist with strong agnostic leanings. Which is to say, you seem open to the possibility that you could be wrong, or that god might not exist. Most theists will not even grant that.

# 1 is correct and atheist reject the Christian idea (concept) of God and their way to come to an understanding of this unknown element in life Christians refer to as God.

Oh, ok, I'm happy now. Thanks!

I find it difficult to say what I am so I hope you don't mind if I neither agree nor disagree with what you said about my beliefs .
