If Evilution Were True...
[creationist]
If Evilution, that destroyer of Souls and Tool of Satan were true, why is it that we still retain the appendix, a truly monumentally fatal flaw, due to its extreme propensity to get infected and burst, thereby killing the person, while at the same time serving no purpose within the body? God made the Appendix to punish the wicked, and the righteous smiting of the Evilutionists. In fact, not ONE God-fearing individual has ever died from a burst appendix, whereas millions of Atheists have! My pastor told me, so it MUST be true! [/creationist} I needed to do that. I miss Eternal. |

I know that most creationists hold to the fall and curse, so even an organs "extreme" propensity for problems is not a good example of bad design. This is not a surprise to them. I also know that it is possible that the appendix has a lymphatic/immune function, so we shouldn't dogmatically claim it has no purpose or function. [/evolutionist] |

Hey wait a minute! WE'RE the ones that are supposed to claim the appendix has a function, so you evilutionists can't call it "vestigial"! Where do you get off stealing our bit? [/creationist] |

Approximately 7 percent of the population will have appendicitis in their lifetime, with the peak incidence occurring between the ages of 10 and 30 years.
So says <a href="http://www.aafp.org/afp/991101ap/2027.html" target="_blank">American Family Physician</a>. Evidently it has never been common enough to select against humans having appendices. The genetic recoding to eliminate it just hasn't occurred, or hasn't produced a significant subpopulation with other advantages. Maybe there are disadvantages with being born without an appendix we don't know about. It has been suggested that the appendix had a use for digestion long ago. * [ January 26, 2002: Message edited by: Ernest Sparks ] Also, appendicitis isn't contagious.
