Post I want more!

In another thread, Oolan Colluphid posted some evidence against intellignet design (see below). These are great!

I also remember others being posted in the past. If possible, could we put a good list of these into one thread, and/or link to some sites with more info. I am trying to increase my knowledge in this area...and these are so helpful!

Here’s another: the human post-auricular muscle. This, in other mammals, moves the ears to point towards sounds. The ability of some people to wiggle their ears being one of God’s lesser-appreciated gifts to us, of course.

And another: apes and humans require vitamin C in their diets. Not only can most animals synthesise their own; the great apes and humans do have the gene for this – but it is broken. And it is rendered non-functional by the same mutation in all the great apes. (Funny that, given that DNA passes down generations, isn’t it.) How kind of your God to give people without adequate diets scurvy.

Want more? How about the nerve that works your voice-box. The mammalian recurrent laryngeal nerve, in getting from one side of the neck to the other, passes down the neck into the chest, round under the aorta by the heart, then back up again to the larynx. Which in the case of giraffes and whales means that an extra 10 to 15 feet of nerve is needed. Good design?

Hi Lady Shea

I'm pleased you liked my recycling of what, here and from me, is such old material! I've used it a few times already!

I've yet to pull all this stuff together properly, but the best place I can point you is Mr Krinkles' site, where he cut&pasted from a previous post of mine listing much of this. It's at: http://members.aol.com/bbu83/things.htm#post The rest of the page above my post is good too. It's neither complete nor error-free (the parthenogenic whiptails are genus Cnemidophorus, for instance - that is/was a typo from Talk.Origins), but it's a good enough list to be going on with. Mr Krinkles has added some nice pics too.

I've found a bunch more things since then, I'll post 'em on when I get a bit more time.

Cheers, Oolon

That's great! I like to have "zingers" like this, but didn't know where to start my research.

Thanks again

I definitely agree - if such a thread can be compiled, please copy it into the Welcome forum, so some of our newer members can have a little exposure to the flavor of some of our debate information and such. It would be an enormous help.

Creationists irritate me. They point out "perfect" design in nature and say that it's evidence of a divine creator, and then when shown obvious imperfections, they will actually turn around and say that it is the result of the Fall! How can they have it both ways?
