I've never been in a forum on any web site--I'm a 57-year-old pre-computer fart--, so I don't know if I'm doing this right. I don't even know what a "thread" is. In any case, to all of you who liked the article I wrote on The Memphis Flyer web site (www.memphisflyer.com) and who have written to say so, I want you to know that I appreciate all your comments immensely. You should also know that I've received only one piece of what might be called hate mail (if consigning me to hell is a symptom of hate), and my livelihood, such as it is, is not in jeopardy. I wish I'd reached more folks on the Religious Right, but the few Christians I've heard from have been, for the most part, nice. It makes me sad that so many people feel it takes a lot of courage to write what I wrote. I don't feel courageous. I generally believe that if you say what you think as honestly as you can, as accurately as you can, and as eloquently as you can, people will treat what you write with respect. Maybe I'm naive. Anyway, thanks for the words of encouragement. Now I'll try to figure out what happens when I press "submit reply."

I also meant to say that I am now getting 50 emails a day, from all over the country, nearly all of them positive responses to The Memphis Flyer column. Not to overreact to this, but it does mean the nonbeliever network is pretty strong.

I sent Mr. Weathers an email also. I was thrilled to see how much support he''s garnered from the Infidel community. I supposes the fundies are brushing him off as just-another- heathen and they don't bother writing, since God will take care of him later. Suzanne

Maybe the fundies that read it were too intimidated by the intelligence and honesty of it.

Ed Weathers,
I agree, great article and I was glad to see a freethinker perspective in print. I'm glad you didn't receive a lot of hate mail. I must admit that I thought you'd get a lot more flack off of this than you did. I'm glad to see things worked out ok. -Klug |

I've just received the latest (UK) National Secular Society's bulletin and that includes a link to the article as well so it will be seen by many more people over here now. I'm sure they'll agree it's a terrific article.
