I think it's worth noting that there is some truth that today's popular image of Hitler is likely quite far from the truth. It's also worth noting that he possessed many of the rare characteristics to become a very powerful leader of people. Too often, adjectives like stupid or dumb, misguidedly belittle Hitler's abilities.

And most importantly, the Third Reich answers many who would worship intelligence and rationality as their own ends, because in so many ways, the character of the Third Reich embodied intelligence and rationality, but in the end, was utterly devoid of human morality.

For a pretty good history of Hitler, from his birth to the beginning of WW-II, try this:

There is also a timeline for WW-II as well as some other excellent history.

Hitler served with some distinction in WW-I, earning the Iron Cross 1st Class; an award not often given to enlisted personell. But, he was never promoted to sargent due to his officers not believing that he had the leadership skills suitable for the rank. Also, the officer who awarded him his Iron Cross was Jewish.

Interesting, no?
