Interesting to note - the trinity (three fold god) concept was inherited from the pagan religions at the time.

The "founding fathers" of xianity and the catholic church really took the eclectic thing seriously. Catholic is a synonum for eclectic!

Not really the same. Indeed I think what a lot of people found offensive about gnosticism is that Ialbadoath seems more like Yahweh than Satan. For example, being the creator. Then there's the whole Jesus was the snake in the garden of Eden thing. That is not going to play well in church,

'Hey minister, no offence but your God's actually a nefarious Demiurge who trapped us in this evil material world with a worthless soul and by worshipping him we're setting ourselves up to go to the bad place'

'Oh....finish your chores so I can cast thee out.'

I feel this calls for a Stripes reference:

"Have you ever blasphemed against the holy ghost?"

"No... but we are willing to learn."

Holy Ghost? Pah. I wouldn't cross the road to piss in his ear if his brain was on fire.

But I would if it wasn't.

Do I qualify? Shit, Hell may be hot, but it’ll be damned cool being with you guys!

No one blinks if I say Zeus was a myth, or Odin was gay. I fail to see any difference between these older myths and any of the current popular mythology.

There, ya happy?
Yeah squeal little piggy. Come on squeal for me. squeal like the fraud you are.

How can I blaspheme something that doesn't exist? Oops, I just did.

Just the opposite. The original meaning of the word "myth" is "sacred story." The Christians were the ones who changed the meaning to have a built-in implication of falsehood. (Lost cause, I know, but the field of prescriptive usage is full of them. I definitely think the word is more useful in the older sense.) Now, blasphemy is committed against something sacred. Therefore you can't commit blasphemy against a story that is not a myth.

So by this defition the stories about Jupiter are myths, for they are sacred stories. But I would not apply the word "myth" to Jupiter himself, because a god and a story are not the same thing, and the two terms are pretty much mutually exclusive.

According to others I do it on a daily basis. I don't mind. I live in a park and I stop all the time to remove turtles and snakes from the road, so they don't get run over...
