Criticism of The Abrahamic Religions
I think most of us would agree with people having freedom of religion in our country. But why does having this freedom seem to exclude also criticizing religion? I'm speaking specifically of the the Abrahamic religions. I don't understand why it's considered rude or even wrong to criticize a religion. Why is most everything else in our country open for debate and criticism except organized religion?
I believe there's nothing wrong at all with criticizing organized religion. I think the mainstream media should start pointing out the flaws in theology and in the holy books. It will piss many religious people off but why should that matter? Aren't religious people interested in the truth? They are always running around telling everyone that they love truth. I think if this were to happen it could potentially have a devastating effect on our culture because religion is so ingrained in our culture. Yet, history teaches us that cultural change can be very difficult but it's sometimes necessary to go through. I think it's better to go through this then to continue to let organized religion divide people, to cause misery and suffering, to cause wars and deaths, etc. I wouldn't say that we have to tear down churches, mosques, or synagogues and eliminate religion altogether. I think the change needs to happen in their teachings and doctrines. I think these religions have to become liberal in their teachings and doctrines. I think religion can serve people and the world but the teachings and doctrines need to change or these religions will continue to divide and slowly destroy the world. Comments? |
