I am 35 years old and I just found out about a year ago that I was babtised as a child. I have been an athiest since a young age and I'm kind of upset about being baptised without my consent. Here's what I'm thinking: Is there a symbol that will nullify my baptism? I would like to get a tatoo to do this. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? How do I get un-baptised? Is that possible? I like the tatoo idea. What are some anti-religious symbols? Where would I find such a thing?

Don't worry, according to some theists baptism doesn't mean anything if you don't believe, so you're still going with the rest of us atheists.

If you don't believe, why is it a concern? Chalk it up to your parents not knowing better...you could always try to be an active debunker of religion, if you feel that may help "unwash" yourself.

After all, in the end all you did was get wet as a baby...it's not like they marked you for life or anything... (thinks of the Beastmaster, and the burned tattoo he gets as a baby on his hand. OUCH!)

Well, I always wanted to get a tattoo (don't have any yet), but I wanted to get something with real meaning. That is the point of my post. I was just wondering if there were any symbols that signified a baptism reversal. I know it sounds weird, but thats basically what my question is.

If you could find a good artistic way to combine this and an "un" or "not" symbol...either the barred circle, or just a good X across it...better yet, anyone who knows the proper Japanese symbol for opposition...

Other than that, Baptists don't seem to have an actual symbol for the practice, just the act itself.

So what, you were baptised. big deal. A lot of people are. Hell, I was baptised and did the whole first communion and first confession thing, all simply because my parents told me to. I remember showing up to my first confession dressed pretty nicely and having no clue why I was going to church at 6 o'clock at night. It wasn't until I was told to go into the confessional booth that I figured out what I was doing there. My first communion wasn't much different, I think I pissed off my CCD teacher because I asked so many questions.

"I don't understand WHY we have to do this."
-"Because it's one of the sacraments, you must do this in order to get into heaven"
"But, that doesn't make any sense"
-"Yes it does"
"No it doesn't. Your supposed to go to heaven if you are a good person, right?"
-"Yes and no"
"Yes and no?"
-"You have to be a good person and perform the sacraments."
"But if your a good person, why do you have to perform the sacraments?"
-"Because you need to be cleaned of all your sins"
"But if your a good person, you wouldn't have sinned"
-"Everyone sins."
"Well yes, but I would think that if you did a lot more good than bad, then the good would cancel out the bad. As long as you really TRIED to be good. How does a silly ritual clean you of sins?"
-"It just does"
"This doesn't make any sense"

If you want a tatoo, get one. However, making up or finding a symbol that signifies your baptism reversal would, in a sense, REMIND you on a constant basis that you were indeed baptised in the first place.

So, some ignoramus sprinkled water on you and mumbled some nonsense. This is nothing. There is nothing to "reverse". As "emotional" says, just be glad you weren't born into a religion that practices genital mutilation on infants.
