Well, 8pm interferes with my watching America's Funniest Videos, but maybe I'll tape it! Thanx!

I just watched it
Mr. Boston was great! But the fundy they had on, Mark Earley, was really, really creepy. Boston tried to explain why church and state should be kept separate, and all Earley could do was respond with some bizarre gibberish about the gospel of Jesus Christ and the "healing power" of God. And he was grinning the whole time, especially when it was revealed that tax dollars were going to his stupid ministry. The really scary thing is that Earley came within a few thousand votes of being elected Governor of Virginia in 2001.

Yeah, I watched the whole show waiting for that interview. Did you notice how both the guest host and the religious whacko tried to bait Mr. Boston into a "value of atheism" vs "value of Xtianity" type confrontation and Mr. Boston never bit?
He just kept right on with the (correct) observation that, regardless of the value of Xtianity in reducing recidivism, the religious activity should not be funded with state tax dollars. He was very calm and presented the case well. He even had the guest host asking agreeable leading questions of the minister (who dodged all the questions of separation issues and as AIF already mentioned responded with mumbo-jumbo about the saving power of jebus). It was great. If fundies were rational they'd have been cringing at the beating their man took. |

Rob Boston has always impressed me with his public presentations.
His book, "Why the Religious Right is Wrong about Separation of chuch & State"" is a good resource also. |

I saw only a brief exchange, where Boston pointed out that the success rate was skewed by accepting low-level offenders to the program. He then pointed out that the rehabilitation was nothing more than conversion, and that government money should not be spent on it. (I've seen people who'll come to your house and do it for free!)
I changed the channel when Cal Thomas whined, "But it's voluntary!" |

Why the Religious Right is Wrong About Separation of Church and State
Other books by Rob Boston Rob Boston is also the author of Consumer Alert: Wallbuilder's Shoddy Workmanship, an online expose of the false quotes from the founding fathers that David Barton published. (Picky little note: his name is sometimes written out as Robert Boston, and you may miss some of his books if you search on one name or the other on Amazon.) |
