Agreed. The verse in the OP smells strongly of slavery (and, of course, there are an ample number of bile--erm, I mean bible--verses that either condone or don't condemn slavery).

I don't know that a slave would be as passionate about her master as the person in Song of Sol is. . .but today I have no problem with "belonging"--to my husband, to my parents, to my extended family--in short to those I hold most dear.

But then, I don't have a problem with having a "husband" either--I know a few women who detest the idea of having a "husband" because it implies that they are being kept by someone who knows what's best for their growth/life.
