The funniest thing is that even with all forms of birth control being illegal in Italy, their population is still dropping faster than an elephant in a vaccuum. I think Italians stopped paying attention to the Pope a long time ago.

well duh, they know that the pope's been dead for years and the voice you hear when he's propped up at the podium is from a ventroloquist somewhere in the audience.

well we had the premier of Victoria telling a private girls high school they should be having more children and earlier. Totally lacks credibility when youre not dressed in white and about to die, thats where the pope's got it going on.

Cool

Of course the Pope wants Italians to have more babies.

More babies = more mouths to feed = lower standard of living.

Fewer babies is also generally a sign that a nation has achieved a higher standard of living, and we can't have THAT now can we? I mean... without needless pain and suffering who's going to turn to the Church for 'support?'

You must be one of the have-nots to say a thing like that.

Perhaps they are planning on a recruitment drive to lure "a few good men" into the priesthood.

The most direct way to a man's heart is through his dick.

John Paul appealed to European leaders, who are drafting a new EU constitution, to recognise the role Christianity has played on the continent.
Um - yes - I'm sure the European Jews and Moslems would just love to be reminded of that.
