Duh, the meaning of life is to spin the plastic thing, hope you land on something that makes a lot of money, like doctor or rock star, go around the board in your little car, get some children, and then at the end be the person with the most money. Why do people ask such stupid questions? Just read the directions, it comes with the game.

The meaning of anything is imputed by the observer, each oberserver providing their own context for such meaning.

Thus one might say that the meaning of life is to ponder its own existence. Or, as a friend of mine commented, "The purpose of life is not to be not".

Cheers

Life, eh. Who'd have one?!

I dunno. Maybe it's finding "enlightenment", whatever that is. (Enlightenment, as I understand it, is not merely "indoctrination").

The purpose of life is to live it. Its meaning? Life itself.

Your purpose is to never have one. Saying you have purpose, says you're under the palms of a scheme. But you should understand, that the truth is that not one inch of this world has ever, or ever will be, subdued by the forces of control. This is the truth that when you understand that there are no guarantees, no promises, no second chances, that you are subject to death without warning. When you suddenly understand that just as you are subject to death without warning, so too are you free to live without warning, that you are free to love without warning, that you are free to love who you want, without warning. That you are free to love what you want, you are free to love how you want, without warning. When you take that and tattoo it on your heart, then you can TRUELY understand this supremely simple fact that: YOU ARE FREE.

I should never post when I'm lethargic. Damnit, I hope you can squeeze some coherency out of this.

I think i meant more "why are we [humans or whoever] here?" I guess I WANT to have a reason, so I look for a reason, but if it's not there, I'll keep looking, because if there is no reason it's depressing.

You're looking for something to occupy yourself with, then. That's a goal that has to precede through personal trial and error.

"He that believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"

I'd guess you folks aren't really "free" or as "open-minded" as you imagine. I know exactly what he was talking about.

Your purpose in life is to be an unimportant cog in a large, bureaucratic machine, working harder and harder everyday to make a little more money for millionaires who care nothing for you. While doing this, you get to pay taxes to a larger, more bureaucratic machine that cares even less for you and doesn't represent any of your interests despite all their claims to the latter. You'll think there should be something more and you were meant for better than this, but eventually the weight of the world will crush your spirit and you'll stop having these thoughts.

Eventually, though, you're going to cease existing and not care about it anymore, so no worries.

Is it more open minded to say you dont KNOW what the meaning of life is and to search for it or to make a postitive statement about it and act like it is the supreme truth?
