Christian Morals changing over time?
In a previous post I discussed Christian morals changing over time. It seems strange that God, him being omnipotent, infallible, and almighty, can make errors that later have to be corrected by Christians. Can the word of God be changed or altered by modern Christians? Can Christians pick and chose the word of God? Shouldn't all teachings in the Bible be applicable, even ones in the Old Testament, today if God knows all? I just hoped some educated Christian or even educated, semi-objective "freethinker" could provide some answers and discussion.

It was once explained to me by a "thumper," when I asked a similar question, that god was responding to the actions taken by his chosen people. He gave them strict rules, and they disobeyed them. He showed himself via miracles, and they worshiped idols and other gods.
So God changed the rules. He gave his people one rule: believe. And he stopped making miracles. (I didn't buy this explanation at the time, and it seems even more absurd now. But that was the explanation I was given.) |
