Default Teenage girls' hazing spree

I am sure most of you have seen the videos of High School girls beating on eachother at a hazing event in Illinois. The media was all over it because it does give ratings, but I would like to hear any comments about violent girls.

In the ancient times when I grew up, it was unheard of that girls would physically hurt eachother in such a way. Girls kicking and punching eachother was just not considered possible. They just didn't do that sort of thing.

Obviously, the times I grew up in were still full of Victorian notions of female behaviour, I now realize. Is violence by girls against other girls going on a lot these days? Have any of you younger types experienced or seen this phonomena?

I'm 31, and I never remember anything like that. However, I would not have been involved in any sort of activity where you subject yourself to that kind of crap in order to "belong." Why anyone would do that is beyond me.

I think we need to quote Red Forman on this. Because they are "Dumbasses."

Addition: Nothing like showing we havent evolved too far from monkies by performing some sort of "alpha male" ritual, to prove you are on a very low rung of society.

Quite frankly, they are lucky that people went along with it (why do people go along with it?). One of the few hazing events at my high school, got the hazers ass kicked when the guy they were trying to haze decided not to go along with it and fought back.

dont mind me, I just cant stand stupid people

Girls fought at my high school with the same regularity as boys, and often in meaner ways (scratching, pulling hair out, kicking someone when they're down). Not to be members of anything, but just fighting. I graduated from high school in '97.

I've read studies that show that as women take on good characteristics and lifestyles of men (assertiveness, careers), they also take on the bad (female population of prisons has skyrocketed). I don't recall there being a conclusion on why, but it's definitely a correlation. It's sad. Too bad we can't have all the good characteristics of each sex. I know I am a pretty assertive female. Unfortunately, I also have a bad temper and can be verbally violent and speak to quickly too often.

It is sad. I think it's only fair. People shouldn't expect girls not to fight, but it't ok for guys. It should just be something we ALL get better at!

Girls are definitely meaner than guys in a fight. Too many guys underestimate the ferocity of angry women; I'd much rather fight a guy.

Unless, of course, it's a consensual fight, but that's a whole other adults-only conversation. (Not many guys can claim to have wrestled with a future female Olympic wrestler, but I can!)

When I was at school (about eight years ago), girls would occasionally engage in fighting amongst each other. Women possess aggressive tendencies like men, so why can't they express them?

*shrug* I got into a fight with another girl once in junior high.

It certainly wasn't unheard of. Girls can be just as mean and aggressive as boys.

In my school, there were girl fights as much as there were guy fights. Though I never did participated in any, there was this unusual routine with fights. Guys usually punch and rarely ever use 'dirty moves' but girls use all the methods they can think up (ex: slap, bang head on floor, throw, scratch, and expecially the hair pull). The only diffrence was guy fights usually get more talk.

The hazing thing was brutal though. None of our fights ever compared to that.

I was shocked and enraged. Especially to hear how many people were involved. Groupthink is such a scary thing, and rampant in our culture.
