- that xians claim that they don't want it to happen to you
- that they claim it is our own fault
- that actions don't get you into heaven, only faith in Jesus, so that a pedophile mass murderer who *believes* gets to go to heaven
- that we are all naughty, bad, horrible people for not letting Jesus into our hearts and eating and drinking him and squirting ghost water on our kids

... but I think that those Christians who SMILE and say that one day they'll be in HEAVEN and you'll be in HELL and THEN you'll REGRET EVERYTHING because you'll BURN and be TORTURED and they'll be HAPPY and SAFE....

I agree with your sentiments, and hope you feel better after the rant.

There are many Christians who do not fit the mold you've described. The Bible imo is sort of an ink blot - people read into it what they want to see. So we have the intolerant hateful types who thump the book as they spout venom, but we also have the empathic peace lovers who find spiritual fulfillment as they meditate over what they see as the word and love of God.

Unfortunately, it's the former who tend to post on these boards.

Not all Christians are like that. Personally I am not a great believer in the writings of Paul---from where all that "grace rules" stuff came from. I never saw anything in what Jesus was purported to have said to justify such a conclusion. If you believe that Paul was inspired in what he wrote, you are pretty much stuck. I personally do not believe that. Paul is somewhat interesting but definitely not the divine word of God. In my not so humble opinion.

I am not even very sure what Jesus's death and resurrection was all about. But the most obvious reason of course is to prove that there IS an afterlife-------that is all I get out of it. The idea of original sin having anything to do with it is a bit ludicrous. Where did Jesus say anything about "original sin" being the reason for His death and resurrection? That part was all tacked on later.
