Join the club, fatherphil.

And if you think this is bad......
well now, back a year ago and more we had a couple of people obsessed with Israel etc.; the flames were nigh on terminal.

My favourite still is my being described by one such flamer as
"obviously of Israelite culture".

Since I am neither 2,000 years old, and I am of fairly "pure" Irish-Scots Celt background (with a smidgen of Scandanavian Norman), I simply added it to my laugh list.

I can never figure out why people are so obsessed by this; there are far worse problems in the world, including the Sudan; but I guess the sight of blacks being murdered and enslaved by Sudanese Arabs just doesn't interest people here, for some odd reason.

________

BTW; oh, and by American standards, I'm a lefty.

Well now lemme see...the Pals celebrated on 9/11, make it a point to instill hatred of Israel in their children and use them as munitions, their parents collecting blood money from Hussein when they accomplish their mission...the Israelis gave back the Sinai in exchange for peace with Egypt, and tolerate the existence of Peace Now, the counterpart to which would never be tolerated by the PLO...

Wow. Tough choice, huh?

There are of course more than two sides in this issue. It is akin to asking if someone supports the US policy in the Middle East. Which one?

Quick quiz.

The person who killed Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was associated with which group?

Islamic Jihad (Palestanian Islamic militants)
PLO (Palestenian secular group)
Eyal group (Jewish militants)
Hamas (Palestanian Islamic group)
Al Queida (Pan-Arabic Islamic group)
Peace Now (Jewish anti-war group)
Likud (Jewish right-wing group)
The answer may suprise you.

Yes, they do have their faults but at least they are a democratic, civilized country. There is no Israeli Hamas or Jewish Jihad. Israelis do not blow up buses and restaurants on purpose.
Israel was willing to concede many points but it was the Paletinian leadership that called off negotiations and called for Intifada in 2000. Therefore the blood (both Israeli and Palestinian) of the last 3 years is on their hands.

Also Israel does not keep "refugees" in camps, Arabs do. They could have been integrated in Palestinian/Arab society decades ago.

You're not alone.

I don't particularly like Israel but they are *FAR* better than the other side.

On the other hand, I don't consider it an Israel vs Palastine issue. The Palestinians are pawns in this. This is Israel vs the Arabs fought by proxy.

that is funny. you must have said some pretty outrageous stuff to be accused of being a jew .

i was watching the pbs stuff on the holocost last night. kind of made my blood boil. it is going to be a challenge to wipe out a nation with that in their cultural background. too bad war was chosen over peace back in 48.

How so? They do have far better weapons, I'll agree, and are much more efficient at killing than the other side 703 (Israeli) to 2,265 (Palestanian) deaths. Although the Israelis have not used suicide attacks, they have used car bombs.

More troubling to me is the collective punishment that they dole out. How would you feel if your entire apartment building was destroyed because a suicide bomber lived in one of the units? Kind of tough, eh? How about ripping up date groves? Sewer systems? Preventing ambulances from reaching casualties?

There is no glory on the militants of either side.

You want to know what it was that I said ?
guess first.....
...
....
...
...
...
I said I supported both the right of an Israeli and a Palestinian state to exist.
I also pointed out that the abuse of Israelis as perpetuating "genocidal" actions was factually a wrong characterization.

This was enough to get me branded as "obviously of Israelite culture".

On this forum, fatherphil, I have personally been branded:
Apologist For Socialism
Apologist for American Imperialism
Anti-American
Apologist for Capitalism
Apologist for Collectivism
Apologist for Statism (whatever that is)
Irrational
Too rational, lacking in human emotions
obviously of Israelite culture
Obviously a theist
Obviously a nasty immoral atheist (actually I am an atheist, but I am neither nasty nor immoral)

In order to complete the list, I am really, really hoping that some day someone accuses me of being an
Apologist for the PLO (though a couple of people have come close to calling me an apologist for Arab nationalism)
and an Apologist for Anarchism

Soooooooooo, fatherphil, the next time I am forced to take you to account and rap you over your knuckles, just remember I have had far worse than you ever had it here.

BTW, what is really interesting is that none --- repeat none --- of my opinions have changed in the three years I've been here.

Someone once said this and I agree. Giev the Palestinians the West Bank, Gaza, and a strip of land connecting them.

They deserve a State as much as the Israelis.
