I had not heard that in specific, but it sounds very suspiciously like a more credible version of Velikovsky's Worlds in Collission which has unfortunately dogged biblical scholarship since it was written in various forms. I realize that this is not a biblical event exactly but for some reason, certain people love to theorize that space rocks were responsible for every event in the bible rather than imagination (or God/Jesus if you're a theist).

Are we sure it was an asteroid
maybe it was an alien vessel filled with aliens that previously visited earth.
