I don't know much about scientology, except that it's weird, but I think Mormons, despite their success, could've done a lot better. Their made-up stories have too much detail, leaving them vulnerable to historical criticism, and I think they take too much liberties with biblical interpretation (from propagandistic point of view of course). They should be more fundamentalist, or deny portions of mainstream christian canon altogether.

Mormon missionary tactics seem to have worked out though. And they're old enough now to have historical momentum, which makes things easier.

Thumbs up

Most of this is my strategy. I think I haven't succeeded for two reasons: a lack of social savvy, and the fact that the world doesn't seem to be ready to believe in polytheism, the theology which is actually true. I mean, look how great a percentage of neopagans hold to a non-hard-polytheistic view of theology, even though most pagans in history (excluding Asia) have been hard polytheists.

Especially relevant to me are strategies 8 and 10. I might qualify as one of the intellectuals mentioned in strategy 7, but instead of being a respected scholar, I'm more of a "misfit" intellectual, and they don't get as much respect. I have tried somewhat to make my religion more continuous with established religions, but my only major strength in that regard is my emphatic acknowledgement that yes, their gods do also exist. And I wouldn't really discourage them from worshipping non-Roman gods, as long as these other gods are sympathetic to Rome and the Past.
