When I referred to a 'silver bullet' I meant it as a personal one. Janaya [ September 22, 2002: Message edited by: Janaya ]
|

My idea of the 'silver bullet' is from "The Emperor Jones" where it brings a happy ending to his mid-life crisis in one instant. The silver bullet is to bring sanity to instability and I am suggesting that you have just began your search for the silver bullet when you left your religion. |

Ahh but we need him here to remind us what it is that we find so irrational about religion. And I like him. As to the comments concerning the internet and the numbers of believers and the dig that you will not find what you seek here, the only people who speak in those terms are those who have given up all rational thought and digressed into the middle ages complete with witch burnings and beheadings and the burning of all books and manuscripts simply because they use the word "Jew" or "Hebrew" in the text. I will refrain from giving my opinion of the jesus character of the NT scriptures and simply say, that christians are very fond of taking the part of the bible they want to believe and disposing of the rest. Thank you for elaborating. I was thinking more of a silver bullet to kill a werewolf actually. I haven't been a practicing Christian for about 13 years. I was kind of a default agnostic during that time. I didn't practice it (at all) but I didn't outright or formally reject it either. I was more into what was right for me as far as lifestyle decisions. I guess I just didn't think about it much at all. And the Christianity that I saw being practiced all around me I accepted more or less as a social/cultural thing. About 16 months ago a good friend of mine (who thinks like me) said, "My wife would call you a secular humanist. You ought to visit this web site. (www.secularhumanism.org)" So I did. Because of a prior commitment to always search out the truth (no matter where it took me) I began my search into logic, reason, religion, etc. That is when I decided that religion is important enough for me to take an active stand on. The more I learned the more I wanted to actively oppose it. Christianity in particular. But my emotions have not quite caught up with my reasoning. Janaya |

Janaya, Your friends who referred you to secularhumanist.org sent you to a well done site. I think as a woman, you might also enjoy what is said at http://www.ffrf.org where you can read many of the articles addressing Biblical anti-feminism as well. One project I did in response to a business partner who became a reconverted fundamentalist Seventh Day Adventist was several discs of anti-tract material that I print out and have given to him and others who care to engage in proselytizing me, it's good too to reinforce what I have concluded and is a great tool to defend your argument[so far my friend has been unable to debate me either! LOL!]
