did the gods turn us into clowns?
so that they would have something funny to watch?
because without ignorance, how can we act stupidly? |

It's entirely possible. My family seems to be an example of a family whom the gods are using this way.

If there is a supreme being, I'm almost totally convinced that he has a wonderful sense of humor, and just sits there with a big grin on his/her face while watching us.

There is a Sumerian creation story where the gods have a big feast and get really drunk on beer, then for amusement they create humans.

nope, they cut us in half. Ya see, long time ago we were circle people. We had two heads, four arms, four legs, and two sets of genitals. There were three combinations: male-male; male-female; and female-female. We didn't walk to get from place-to-place; we did cartwheels. One day, we decided we were going to get to heaven and be like the gods by cartwheeling up a mountain into heaven. As a punishment for stepping out of our place, the gods cut us in half. Ever since, we've been searching for our other half. This explains both hetero and homosexuality.
Bonus points to the first person who knows where this "theory" comes from. |

Plato, wasn't it? "Charmides", I think. Where Socrates is lusting after this hot young man... kind of a sidebar to the main point of the peice, but entertaining.

Been a while (and even then my memory was a sieve), but my recollection is it's from Aristophanes' speech in the Symposium. Right before Socrates, who of course *had* to get the last word in ....

"God is a comic playing before an audience who is afraid to laugh"
I forget who said that. |
