History of Christianity
I am trying to propose some critical questions to a few of my Christian friends. I am familiar that ancient African spirituality is symbolic in Christian themes, and I am also aware that Judaism was it's predecessor, in terms of that Judaism was practiced before Christianity came on the scene, so naturally Judaism has a strong effect on the practices of Christianity as well. Also, I've been exposed to the idea of Christianity being furthered and spread as an offspring of the Catholic Church. Now, for this to be as dominant religion that is practiced, one of my opening arguments will be that "Jesus" can't be the only way to salvation or rigghteous life.(I'll be arguing on acceptance that there is afterlife and a belief of a deity/saviour...so I'll be arguing from their belief standpoint. I find sometimes arguing from the "Even if what you say is true" standpoint, it makes some people less defensive, then if you show inconsistencies such as in proving them wrong or why what they say seems impractical of improbable.) My reasoning will be based on the premise that if God is good, then what happens to the people that
1. Weren't adherents to the Gospel thousands of years before it came on the scene 2. What happens to people that will never, or have never been exposed to Christian thought. I'm also formulating arguments as to: 1. What is the purpose of the thousand different types or denominations of Christianity (currently I'm looking for a source to corroborate this claim, hopefully with a few names, e.g. 7 day adventist, baptist, etc) 2. Are these differences (in denomination also) material in getting into the "kingdom?" (Also what is the purpose for all these differences such as denomination and what is their intent?) 3. If these differences are material, then who has the authority, or who determines who is right? 4. If these differences are immaterial, then my questioning would somehow revert to my previous assertion that Jesus cannot be the only way. I'm entertaining any help in refining my points, as well as any resources that will aid in me constructing a sound case. Also, if you find any areas that I may need to be consider reworking, please let me know. |
