Wink On the myth of God, free will, etc. BibleBelted gets to the bottom of it all.

DP, do you think our theist friends will really want to discuss this?

I don’t know, but I get tired of the evasions that are given here by the theists when you ask them simple direct questions. I have felt for a long time that this is the most compelling reason for the continued belief in God and religion, not logic, reason or common sense. BB just put it so succinctly, even if he isn’t the originator of it.

BibleBelted's observations are pretty obviously true.

However if you're going to try to take some implications to religion, it looks like a two-edged sword to me. The committed Atheist posters here could surely be accused of exactly the same thing. Wouldn't it be heartbreaking to invest so must time and effort into defending and promoting Atheism, only to find out that it was wrong?

Cool

However, most of our time and effort seems to involve refuting lame arguments by theists: arguments that are still lame even if there IS a God (an invalid argument can still lead to a true conclusion).

If there is a God, I hope he's created a special circle of Hell for Cornelius Van Til and his braindead followers.

Now, now, Van Til's followers are far from brain dead. Imagine the amount of brain activity necessary to perform such impressive mental gymnastics!

Tercel, speaking personally, I would not be heartbroken. Bloody amazed, yes; possibly terrified, if some really powerful evidence for the Biblical God turned up. Even if the evidence were only for some deistic version, I would not be slow to admit the consequences once the evidence was proven valid to my own satisfaction.

Trouble is, no least hint of such evidence exists. So you have no room to swing this particular sword.
