Default Priests may get away with it...

Church, county at odds in priest scandal

Quote:
When Prosecutor William Mason concluded his grand jury investigation in December, he said the only reason many priests weren't indicted was that the time limit for charging them had expired.

Two months later, only prosecutors and grand jurors know how many priests escaped criminal charges because their cases were too old, who they are and whether they are still active in the ministry. And only they know how many of the 145 were absolved of guilt.

And because of Ohio law, no one else may ever know: not the diocese, not the news media and not the region's 800,000 Catholics - unless a judge lets the prosecutors release information normally kept secret.

"Disclosure could only bring more harm, humiliation and embarrassment for all parties involved," he said, adding that "to the best of our knowledge," no priests against whom abuse allegations have been made are still in active ministry.
First, the harm has already been done to the victims. Sure, it would be painful to have to recall it, but there would be some closure for them, IMO.

Second, the fact that they're not still in active ministry doesn't make things any better ... OR, that they won't victimize anyone else again!

What sickens me more is that I'm friends with a relative of the spokesman and I see the spokesman occasionally. I have a hard time talking to him since I find these excuses sickening particularly for the church. I have no respect for him.

Be of good cheer:

Ezek. 9:6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; AND BEGIN AT MY SANCTUARY. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.

No guilty priest shall go free.

The Church isn't getting out of this scot-free.

Both the priests and their corrupt institution have lost something very important: the moral high ground.

Many Catholics are now upset at the Church, priests will forever after be viewed with suspicion, and the Church can now be more easily criticized for its archaic moral stands, and shot down when it gets too self-righteous.

Not to burst your bubble, but this scandel happened 20 years ago and it didn't keep the church from claiming anything. I remember feeling outrage then same as now. After the exposed cover ups it makes you wonder what else they are hiding that didn't get exposed.

Anyone that puts trust in this institution should have their head examined. Since the church doesn't appear to be trying to make major changes to protect its flock, only the change neccessary for damage control. Not in my mind trustworthy.

But this is NOT happening. The legal system goes as far as it can. The church is hiding behind this limitation. These are 'men of god' who are submerged in religion and yet are unable to take the high moral ground. How can I believe religion is a positive influence when I see actions like this?
