Default CA: Darwin faces a new rival

A Roseville high school parent urges that 'intelligent design' also be taught in biology.

Quote:
"Evolution doesn't represent all the views in the [pseudo]scientific community and probably doesn't represent the best views," said Caldwell, who has a child at Granite Bay High School. "Rather than giving our students the most up-to-date view of [pseudo]science, we're giving an outdated view that reflects the opinions of only one group of scientists."
Fixed it.

Quote:
"Darwinism is an argument against design, intelligent design is an argument for design. Both have religious implications," [Mark Edwards, spokesman for the Discovery Institute] said. "That doesn't mean they should be excluded from biology."
More idiot lies. Edwards, as is typically, is completely ignorant about biology yets feels fit to stand up to a reporter and pontificate on subjects he is wholy inadequate to discussion. Darwinism IS an argument for design. That was the importance of Darwin's work. It explained why things are designed as they are: natural selection is a design process that is an obvious result of replicators and competition. In fact it explains our observations of nature better than the "sentient" design process that the DI loves to jabber about, without managing to ever get around to the science. The DI couldn't be more wrong if they declared that the world was flat and California was part of Uganda.

Mark Edwards, spokesman for the Discovery Institute, a Seattle think-tank that is the main promoter of intelligent design, said all theories on the origins of life have religious undertones, including those that imply there is no creator.
The usual bulls*** reported uncritically: evolution = atheism. I certainly hope somebody writes a letter to the editor calling them on this.
