A theist friend of mine expressed a belief that psychopaths literally have no souls. I am uncomfortable with the idea of dividing the world into people who have souls, and people who do not, and I told her this. But she seems to feel that having a soul is what stops you from being a psychopath.

I guess I'm fishing for comments on this line of thinking. Does anyone know of people with similar beliefs?

Get your friend to explain how come god boobed on this one. Isn't he supposed to issue one standard soul to everyone? tut! tut! Another example of divine incompetence/sloppiness!

No, it isn't a mistake. The psychopaths are put here as a test for those of us with souls.

Me too, freemonkey.

It's because no one ever taught them about basic scientific inquiry, I think.

Instead of beginning with evidence and drawing reasonable conclusions based on available evidence (and changing conclusions if contradictory evidence is found), they begin with the assumption that their desired conclusion is fact, by golly...then do whatever is necessary to make all other "evidence" make sense in the light of this "fact."

They just have it bass-ackwards.

So the definition of soul is the thing that makes you able to tell right from wrong, reality from fantasy, and that you shouldn't kill people to help you physically live out the little stories you create in your head? The things the soul actually does get fewer and fewer. Soul of the gaps?
